I was born and brought up in Leeds, where I live with my Partner and our children. I am active for the Labour Party, active in the Community in my local area and active in the Community in Moortown and Meanwood. I have varied work and life experience - both here and abroad. I am Chair of my local Action Group and we have successfully campaigned to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour and to improve road safety. We have organised Community Events - from Family Fun Days to Events for the Elderly.
I am a lay member of a Police Race Hate Scrutiny Panel - this is an issue I feel very strongly about.

I have lived in Leeds, in Hull and in Germany. I have worked in a paid capacity as a Mediator for West Yorkshire Probation Service and in Housing for Leeds University. I have worked in a voluntary capacity for the Citizens Advice Bureau, Nightline (Student version of the Samaritans), Schools, Mums' Groups, Beavers, Toddler Group. I have been involved in the Community through our Action Group, attending Council Meetings and Forums, attending Leeds Tenants' Federation Conferences and attending Police Forums and Police Authority Forums.
I have been involved in the nightclubbing, music and acting Communities in Leeds in my (bit) younger days.
I have been a Labour Supporter for many years and I know that the better standard of living that we have experienced under our Labour Government could disappear tomorrow if the Tories or Lib Dems were in power. I remember the Thatcher years with the grinding poverty and deprivation, when for many there was little money or prospects.
For a Society to be civilised we must look after our weak, sick, vulnerable, young and elderly. I want to live in a Society where every child has the chance of a decent education, where anyone who is ill or injured can obtain first class, free quick medical treatment, where everyone has the chance to live in a decent home - without their lives being blighted by crime and anti-social behaviour. Children are our future and ALL children should be able to access good quality education AND/OR apprenticeship type training - so they grow up into adults who can fully participate in Society. Everyone should have access to the arts and to sport. The elderly and the physically and/or mentally ill or disabled should have the things they need without cost cutting.
I have been selected to stand as a Labour Party Candidate for the Moortown Ward in the 2008 Local Elections. I will be opposing race hate crime, putting local Residents' issues first and listening to Residents in the Ward.
VOTE LABOUR - GET LABOUR.
VOTE LIB DEM - GET TORY.
MARKS & SPENCER - MOORTOWN.
M&S want to develop their Store, this would involve demolishing the Chained Bull Pub, expanding the Store and having more car parking. This area is already busy with traffic. The Labour Team in Moortown will be monitoring any development.
PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS.
I am a campaigning for traffic light controlled crossings on Harrogate Road and Shadwell Lane (near M&S) as it is unsafe to cross these roads. I would welcome any help you could give to this campaign.
YORKSHIRE BANK PLAYING FIELDS.
I am campaigning, along with Gerry Harper (Fabian Hamilton MP's Parliamentary Assistant) in the fight to stop development on this Site. Yorkshire Bank submitted plans for development in 1998 and again in 2006. Proposals were withdrawn after meetings with Residents who were furious with the Lib Dem Councillors who said that nothing could be done to stop the plans. This land should be for Community use - our green spaces must be protected for our children and future generations. At a recent Community meeting, hosted by the Consultants for Yorkshire Bank - the Consultants made it clear that a planning application could be submitted regardless of Residents' wishes. Well, it could be submitted but we could fight against it.
ROAD SAFETY.
I campaign for more pedestrian crossings to improve road safety. Nowadays, there is a greater volume of traffic and we need more crossings to reflect this. In particular, the junction of Green Road and Stonegate Road in Meanwood would benefit from traffic lights and a traffic light controlled crossing. In my local area I successfully campaigned for a zebra crossing, to improve road safety.
20MPH ZONES.
I am campaigning for 20mph speed limits in residential areas, for the safety of everyone in the Ward - particularly children and the elderly.
20mph SPEED LIMITS SAVE LIVES AND CAN REDUCE INJURIES. Let's put people before traffic!!!!!
CHILDREN AND TEENAGERS.
There are not enough playgrounds for children or skateparks/indoor Clubs for teenagers. There is land available for these facilities - let's improve Moortown Ward!!!!!

BENCHES
PLAYGROUNDS
SKATEPARKS
INDOOR CLUBS FOR TEENAGERS
LET'S WORK TOGETHER FOR MORE FACILITIES TO IMPROVE THE WARD. IT HAS BEEN NEGLECTED FOR TOO LONG. LABOUR WILL WORK WITH YOU NOT AGAINST YOU.
